Welcome to my Tropic skincare page!
Where indulgence meets wellbeing creating self care rituals that last, which will ultimately change the way you view yourself and reframe your life; this is my promise to you!!
A few years ago I “overbought” products for Christmas presents, purchased too many in a rush to get it over and done with. That usual festive stress shopping is so unnecessary isn’t it?!!!
Anyway, by January, I found I had a drawer full of random beauty products that had no home. Feeling burnt out from work, exhausted from no sleep having tossed and turned for hours with irrational thought processes, flushing, and night sweats soaking my bed sheets I stared at the bathroom mirror, then down at the skin care products – beautifully packaged to be fair; and decided to use them myself.
I took one at a time, starting with a cleanser. Whatever happened in the following 5 minutes changed my life. Dramatic and bold a statement I know, but it truly began the cascade resulting in my emotional rollercoaster slowing to an eventual stop.
I didn’t recognise the drawn, wrinkled, grey looking woman, with a streak of white hair crowning my roots when I stared in the mirror. Menopause, parenting teenagers, invisibility at work and no intimate relationship felt a world away from the dark haired beauty that had floated through her 20’s and 30’s.
But the act of purely opening up a product, reading the “how to use” instructions and taking the time to use it, then add in another product and another, gave my brain a rest. I could do nothing for what became 20 minutes every night except concentrate on how the products made me feel.
That 20 minutes became an hour, with a hot bubble bath as the defining moment that signalled the commencement of my evening. Every evening. Candles, wine and my kindle followed, and I altered my eating habits so that my main meal was eaten at lunchtime, with just a small plate in the evenings.
Sleep came next, I found the routine of prioritising my self care – making my home – my bathroom regime – my sanctuary – helped me relax and racing thoughts and stress settled momentarily enough to promote better sleep habits.
After months of implementing this ritual, and Spring had sprung, I felt as though I too was beginning to blossom. The activities that I held sacred prior to menopause began to appeal again, and I picked up the pen so-to-speak, and started my writing.
I have since written articles – clinical and non clinical – I have published a fictional novel and completed many courses to improve my menopause knowledge, coaching skill and of am now a Tropic ambassador.
To proclaim that a simple product is responsible for my embracing the next chapter of my life with joy and excitement sounds laughable, but it really and truly was the best investment I ever made.
