All Hallows’ Eve – respecting or fearing the dead? Who knows and who cares ….. as kiddies we dress up and trick or treat – well just treat actually, to get the sweets 🧛🏻‍♂️🎃😂

In our teens and 20’s we party in themed costume that would usually comprise of fake blood, fangs and the scary/sexy look 🙄

In our 30’s many of us dress up just to traipse our offspring around the streets in search of the 🎃 on a doorstep to invite trick or treaters to knock. Cold and apologetically.

We can bypass the 40’s – let’s face it – how many of us hid or went out so we didn’t have to acknowledge the persistent irritating knocks for chocolate 🤣

So the important question is, it’s a festival of sorts so why shouldn’t we just frock up and go out on the streets or to bars in our hallowe’en or gothic finery and make it a “thing” too? It sounds ridiculous to the average person but I have just experienced a grown up spot of fun …..

STEAMPUNK

Steampunk is, simply put, a mishmash of 18/19th century fashion, with an element of the evolution of all things steam from the Victorian era and futuristic science fiction.

I visited Whitby for the goth weekend – Dracula apparently “landed” shipwrecked in Whitby bay and ran up the steps to the abbey. So all things Dracula and gothic emerges here in fantastic aplomb over hallowe’en weekend.

I dressed up as ….. not entirely sure, but as It was gothic themed I did my best in black! However I was drastically underdressed. I don’t think my inner ‘80’s self could compute the expectation.

BUT ….. I shall return next year to be part of the throng of mostly middle aged veterans who embrace an opportunity which quite frankly, is absolutely what we should be doing whenever there’s a slight glimmer of reinvention possibility and rock the bloody heck out of the moment!
